Microsoft Corporation Fraud Data Scientist in Redmond, Washington

The Commerce Engineering Operations group is at the center of online purchase and signup experiences at Microsoft, including Xbox, Microsoft Store, Office 365, Azure, Microsoft Ads, Surface Warranty and more. These lines of business rely on our team to protect against fraud while also ensuring a great experience for genuine customers.

We are looking for a strong data scientist who is self-motivated and an excellent team player to manage the Risk system inline strategy for one or more of these businesses. The key focus is fraud data analytics, managing the automated rule strategy, and usage of our ML models, but the role is also part investigator, part program manager, part negotiator, and part firefighter. Creativity, passion, leadership, and tenacity are necessary traits. Each day the team is presented with situations that require unique and well considered responses to foil relentless fraud attacks. We are the front line of defense for Microsoft’s large and growing ecommerce footprint. Because of this, we are looking for an ecommerce fraud expert with a strong data science background to join our team.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Employe analytic techniques to determine ML model operating points and segmentation, devise and deploy rules, and implement other fraud strategy enhancements.

  • Analyze new data sources to find novel patterns, and continually refine our fraud monitoring, detection, and mitigation processes.

  • Collaborate with engineering and partner teams cross-company in support of implementing comprehensive fraud strategies.

  • Work independently to detect, investigate, and understand new emerging fraud vectors and vulnerabilities

  • Adhere to platform KPIs related to fraud and customer experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years in a data scientist role experience using machine learning models.

  • 2 + years conducting transaction analytics and managing production system rule logic to mitigate ecommerce fraud.

  • 2+ years coding experience in any modern data science languages, python, spark, perl, sql, R, etc.

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics (Relevant work experience can substitute).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Desire to learn and improve constantly Self-motivated, tenacious team player.

  • Ability to drive good decisions through data with great attention to detail and excellent logical problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with the whole life cycle for fraud model or transaction analytic model development and deploymentExceptional coding skills in one of the following C++, C# or Java.

  • Advanced working knowledge in Microsoft Azure platform for development and deployment.

  • Familiarity with the distributed computing systems like COSMOS, Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark, Databricks, HDInsight and/or similar systems.

  • Advanced data visualization skills in PowerBI or similar application.
