343 Industries is the developer of the award-winning Halo series of video games. As part of Xbox Game Studios, the Halo franchise encompasses games, television series, novels, comics, licensed collectibles, apparel, and more. We are looking for talented new voices to join our team to build the next generation of games and experiences in Halo’s beloved sci-fi universe.

343 Industries is looking for a writer that is deeply knowledgeable about Halo lore to join the team that builds and maintains the fiction of the Halo universe. Do you know Forerunner birth names by heart? Do you remember Spartan designations easier than you do phone numbers? Do you love learning and want an evolving challenge with lots of room for professional and creative growth?

We are looking for a Franchise Writer to join the Franchise Development Team. We are dedicated to the vision, creation, and curation of Halo’s evolving story world. We empower and collaborate with a wide range of partner teams and studios on the implementation of new creative elements and are ultimately responsible for the high-level direction of the Halo universe’s canon and story through characters and events experienced in a diverse range of mediums. As a Halo Franchise Writer, you would be an integral part of this process to help grow and expand the Halo universe, while keeping new products and lore faithful to the existing canon. Roles at our studio are flexible, and you can work from home up to two days a week in this role.

  • Write and review Halo content.

  • Edit content for Halo Brand & Story accuracy. 

  • Act as a lore-focused resource for internal and external partners.

  • Create documentation for archival, onboarding, and project development.

  • Process and relate a deep understanding of Halo fiction into new content.

  • Create intentional ties that link the Halo universe across products.

  • Leverage Halo knowledge to determine what information is most appropriate and meaningful for a story and target audience(s).

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ year(s) proven writing or content design experience AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related fieldOR equivalent experience.

  • Deep understanding of Halo lore and fiction across all products.

  • 1+ years of experience editing and improving the work of others

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements arerequired for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years proven writing or content design experience AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience writing for different audiences (writing samples may be requested)

  • Past success in demonstrating your ability to work effectively with multiple teams and stakeholders while generating energy, creating clarity, and delivering results to the team and broader organization.

  • Organized, able to work on several tasks simultaneously and prioritize schedules and deliverables in a fast-paced, multi-project environment with deadlines.

  • Proficient in a variety of storytelling techniques and application of story structure.

  • Upbeat, positive attitude to work collaboratively with partners and team members and deal with the ambiguity of the creative process.

Writing IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
