EMPLOYMENT SECURITY DEPT Farm Worker X20, Carnation, WA in Redmond, Washington

Job Description

This job order for a Carnation farm hiring 20 Farm Workers for seasonal work May 15, 2024, to February 15, 2025. Housing will be provided for workers that live outside the commuting area or distance.

The Farmworker will participate in general duties associated with a commercial farming operation including but not limited to; planting, growing, harvesting and packing of various row crops. In addition, individual will comply with all safety, labor and food safety requirements; maximize crop by best weeding and harvesting practices; perform work on and off tractors, that seed crops, transplant crops, spray crops, harvest crops and cultivate fields; perform work moving and setting up irrigation pipes and attend all safety meetings.

The anticipated work periods involved in these other crops vary widely and can occur at any time during the growing season and during the course of employment period. Crops: green beans, beets, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, celeriac, celery chard, collar, corn, cucumber, dandelion, endive, kale, leeks, lettuce, parsley, parsnip, radicchio radish, rutabaga, spinach, turnip, winter squash and annuals.

Job Requirements 

  1. Have a minimum of three verifiable months experience in hand harvesting vegetable row crops on a commercial farming operation.
  2. Duties include manually seeding, planting, hand harvesting, packaging, hand weeding, hoeing, washing, cooling, and growing of row crop vegetables and annuals to meet production standards and procedures.
  3. The work is under the general direction of a supervisor or employer and is subject to periodic review by the supervisors for results obtained changes in work methods, and adherence to policies.
  4. Maximize crop by best planting, harvest, weeding and growing practices.
  5. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds continuously throughout the workday.
  6. Work with crews that move and set up irrigation pipes.
  7. Are legally entitled to work in the U.S.;
  8. Meet all of the qualifications of the clearance order.
  9. Are available to commit to work the entire length of the contract;
  10. Workers state he/she is physically able to perform the job requirements;

Other Job Specifications Include:

  1. Pick row crops according to instructions of supervisor.
  2. Pack harvested fruits and vegetables by count or weight into containers taking care to avoid damage.
  3. Lift, carry and load containers onto harvest wagon or truck.
  4. Exercise care to prevent bruising row crop.
  5. Farm clean up tasks to include picking up garbage around the farm and other hand tasks.
  6. Planting green beans, beets, bok, broccoli, cabbage, celeriac, celery chard, collar, corn, cucumber, dandelion, endive, kale, leeks, lettuce, parsley, parsnip, radicchio radish, rutabaga, spinach, turnip, winter squash and annuals.

Salary/Wage/Benefits $19.25 per hour. Housing will be provided for workers that are unable to return to residence at the end of the day.

 

Hours/Days/Schedule

Work schedule is Monday-Friday from 6:00am to 1:30pm and 5 hours on Saturday. Shift starts and end times may vary depending upon weather and crops.
