This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Hydrogeologist for our Portland, OR or Redmond, WA office.
Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides support to technical staff and project managers for due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects. Tasks may include collecting environmental samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor), and conducting site exploration and geologic logging using a variety of drilling techniques. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding field conditions, movement, outcome, and the ecological risks of contaminants. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact
Develop thorough knowledge of standard field sampling procedures for various environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air)
Implement environmental sampling plans (sampling and testing)
Document and record data and observations in a clear and organized manner
Provide assistance in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of hydrologic, geologic, and chemical data obtained during investigations
Assist in preparing project plans and technical reports related to investigation and remediation activities (boring logs, data tables, geologic cross sections)
Perform inspection work and compile reports in a timely manner
Supervise contractors and enforce safe operations in the field
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
0-1 year experience and must have completed at least one college level hydrogeology course.
Proficient in data management functions in Excel.
The candidate must have strong computer and writing skills.
The successful candidate will show an ability to work independently and show a high level of initiative and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
Proficiency with ESRI’s ArcGIS software.
OSHA 40-hour certification.
Strong background in Geology.
Experience in Geologic logging and drilling. Experience with slug and pumping aquifer tests.
MSHA 24-hour Surface Miner Certification.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (Washington Only): $49,400 - $74,100
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
