The Surface Team is seeking qualified candidates for Display Software Development Engineer in Test. You will be responsible for the design validation and qualification of Surface display software and firmware. You will create and develop comprehensive software and firmware validation strategies and plans that bridge high-level use cases and experiences to product architecture/design. You will provide critical analysis of test data results and drive the right solutions, design changes, and trade-offs in the context of business priorities with our partner teams in Surface and Windows as well as external suppliers. Working closely with our optical and electrical engineers, you will design test automation solutions enabling high-efficiency hardware testing of prototype and under-development LCDs and OLED displays that plug seamlessly into our test automation framework. Your work will assure Surface displays lead the industry in quality.


  • Minimum BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field

  • 5+ years of experience in C#/C++ programming language

  • Experience with Visual Studio, NuGet packages, and integrating 3rd party APIs and tools

  • Demonstrated ability to develop well-structured code

  • Ability to write test documentation including test plans, procedures, reports, and key performance indicators

  • Ability to lead and execute test passes including reporting, bug management and bug triage

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms

  • Must be able to plan work, and work to a plan adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving environment

  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and self-driven

  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with SQL, Python, Perl, Java, Kotlin, PowerBI, R

  • Experience with Display technology, protocols, and/or drivers for Windows or Android

  • Experience with Optical Testing (spectrometers, colorimeters) or Electrical Testing (oscilloscopes, function g

  • Experience in prototype system software bring-up, debug, fault detection, and failure analysis
