Microsoft Corporation Director of Strategy and Analytics in Redmond, Washington

The Surface Business Planning & Strategy team plays a key role in the overall Devices business and this role is central to achieving our revenue growth, profitability, and unit volume goals for our growth portfolio.

We are looking for an expert to lead the Strategy & Analytics efforts across our portfolio of first party hardware devices, lead Consumer research, Pricing Analytics, Conjoint. If you have a proven track record in strategy, analytics, product and business planning and/or finance, this is a unique opportunity to lead the Business Planning and strategic initiatives across the portfolio to help drive growth for the business.

You would be working closely with several cross-functional teams across the Devices marketing teams, finance, engineering, and segment and field marketing teams to generate actionable insights to realize our growth aspirations.

The impact you will be making in this role:

  • Responsible for problem solving complex analytical problems, market research, consumer analytics, pre and post purchase behavior to support our customer journey and demand generation funnel.

  • Create, define, and maintain marketing channel “source of truth” dashboards across consumer journey, social sentiment, product usage and feature Willingness to pay

  • Lead the Surface analytics and research roadmap. Collaborate with stakeholders to align key analytics priorities.

  • Building strong relationships across the organization including otherresearch teams, user research, competitive intelligence teams, finance, GTM & engineering teams.

  • Uses understanding of the business (such as planning goals, product timelines, and geography factors) to guide simple problem-framing discussion with stakeholders, form hypotheses, identify challenges, and frame key business problems into a conceptual basis for inquiry. Communicates with stakeholders and reviews current data. Creates a point of view on business issues. Helps stakeholders articulate challenges.

  • Develops plans that use the best available data sources (e.g., surveys, interviews, Conjoint studies, telemetry) to answer questions about Surface product portfolio, pricing, Volumes, promotions, loyalty, upgrade behaviors and socializes plans with multiple stakeholders.

  • Works with stakeholders to clarify the information and intelligence needed to answer specific business problems. Engages with research peers to determine what other intelligence exists and rationalizes objectives to improve framing and analysis. Uses and builds on existing Microsoft research & analytics and published research to improve focus, applicability, and action taken from new research.

  • Uses multiple analytical techniques (e.g., regression analyses, descriptive statistics). Develops hypotheses to run analyses. Checks against initial hypotheses. Identifies opportunities to do additional in-depth analysis on specific business questions.

  • Generates customer insights and recommendations to improve Surface business goals, customer satisfaction, loyalty and ecosystem stickiness. Generates insights for a study and source of data.

  • Supports synthesis and creation of key reporting outputs to communicate issues and opportunities across the company. Expands the impact of research and insights by communicating to an increasingly broader set of stakeholders and research peers.

  • Applies data exploration techniques to discover new or previously unasked questions. Incorporates an understanding of the business, customer perspectives, data sources, and methodologies in order to reframe problems to gain added insight, explores different data sources. Acquires and uses knowledge of innovative methods, algorithms, and tools from within Microsoft and the scientific literature, and applies analysis provided by team for scalability and applicability to the formulated problem.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders across multiple disciplines to make product/business improvements that yield customer/business value by effectively making compelling cases through storytelling, visualizations, and other influencing tools.


Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, data science and analytics, or related experience

  • OR equivalent experience

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, data science and analytics, or related experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science, Economics, Business, or related field

  • OR 8+ years strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, data science and analytics, or related experience AND Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), or related field

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of people management experience
