Job Description: Position Title: Sr. Design Engineer Location: Redmond, WA Reporting to: Design Engineering Manager This is a product design role located in Redmond/Bothell, WA for heavy off-road mobile equipment and will be tasked with developing and applying reliable engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. Main Duties and Responsibilities Implement technical projects in the design, development, testing, and documentation of heavy off-road mobile equipment products Develop complex design solutions involving sensor selection, remote sensing, device connectivity, and automation/remote operation Apply machine learning algorithms to process and analyze data collected from sensors and/or IoT devices and utilize to control electrical and mechanical systems Implement safe and secure solutions, using industry standards/regulations to control data privacy and cyber security concerns System design, coordinating electrical systems and mechanical systems using onboard and remote sensors, as well as interacting/communicating with other machines and networks Collaborate with software engineers to develop embedded software for control and data processing Perform design and testing of electrical control systems related to product design including harnesses, power distribution, sensor/component selection, and basic mechatronics programming Develop innovative new designs from initial concept to implementation and advance existing designs utilizing the latest industry available technologies Verify and document compliance with applicable global and regional standards Specify component and machine testing, create procedures and detail testing processes Document designs with solid part models, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks Verify designs using traditional analytical methods in conjunction with appropriate analytical tools Verification of designs through hands on testing and prototyping Research, specify, and test manufactured and purchased parts working closely with the materials group and suppliers Maintain a focus on design for manufacturability and work closely with the global manufacturing teams and production facilities to assist in product and process improvements Required Qualifications ABET or equivalent accredited B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or closely related field Experience: 5+ years' relevant experience (or combined experience plus relevant M.S. in engineering) as described below: Experience with connected systems, machine learning, and/or remote/automated operations Experience with 1 or more below systems Automation component selection and control (electrical motors, gearboxes, sensors, actuators, controllers) Electric/hybrid vehicle system design/architecture (AC/DC motors, motor controllers, chargers, batteries, generators), Hydraulic system design/architecture (pumps, manifolds, hydraulic motors,) Experience with electro-mechanical system layout/controls Experience with off-highway/construction industry equipment Preferred Qualifications Experience in machine design or related industry Strong orientation towards safety, quality, and continuous improvement Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Proficient with analytical tools Experience with designing and troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic systems Ability to follow sequenced work associated with complex design tasks Has basic understanding across multiple areas of engineering and may have advanced understanding in a specific area: Mechanical Design, Robotics, IoT, Hydraulic Systems, or Electrical Systems Experience applying engineering principals to solve complex problems with little or no guidance, identifying and working through multi-disciplinary complex technical problems indepen
