Position: Campus Response Specialist

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: Redmond, WA

Salary Range: $26.25/hour

FLSA: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

The Campus Response Specialist provides security services for the Microsoft campus to include foot and vehicle patrols. Responds to emergency and routine service calls as required and takes appropriate action. Completes all reports and documentation required. Assess risks and threats and takes appropriate action.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

In performing functions, duties or tasks, Officers are required to know and follow safe work practices. Officers are required to be aware of company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations. Officers are also required to notify superiors of unsafe working conditions.

All functions or duties are to be carried out in an honest, ethical, and professional manner, and in compliance with applicable company policies and procedures. In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of company policies and procedures, Officers are required to request clarification or explanations from supervisors or authorized company representatives.

  1. Enforces access control policy at all client facilities for client employees, vendors, visitors, contractors and vehicles through the use of security devices, bollards, stanchions and barricades.

  2. Utilizes excellent customer service, customer relations and communications skills in dealing with client employees, vendors, visitors, and contractors. Creates and maintains an atmosphere that is responsive, courteous and respectful; presents a professional image of security department.

  3. Identifies clients, vendors, visitors, and contractors in accordance with access control policies. Identifies suspicious or prohibited individuals, materials, vehicles, or items, and ensures that property removal is conducted in accordance with client standards. Defuses and manages confrontational, aggressive or threatening people or situations through intervention that utilizes effective communication and other skills.

  4. Responds to emergency and routine incidents including unauthorized incursions, fire, medical emergencies, bomb threat, suspicious activities and people, flooding, hazardous materials, and facilities issues. This requires frequent partnering with local emergency responders.

  5. Performs risk and threat assessments and conducts security audits and reviews. Identifies indicators of workplace violence and takes appropriate action.

  6. Prepares written and electronic logs and reports as required for site while entering information in appropriate computer systems. Collects complete information for detailed report and appropriate follow-up. Reads and comprehends reports and other printed materials.

  7. Patrols assigned area on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle while checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress and egress, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons; inspects buildings, grounds and perimeters using appropriate equipment and protective gear. Climbs multiple flights of stairs and walks for extensive periods over multiple types of terrain. Clearly communicates all security issues using two-way radio, telephone, and email.

  8. Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations through use of barriers and signage. Utilizes knowledge of crime scene preservation to protect evidence.

  9. Collects, moves, and/or witnesses destruction of confidential materials; identified actions for safeguarding and handling of client proprietary and classified information.

  10. Stands guard at various posts for prolonged periods; sits and stands repeatedly at a stationary post.

  11. Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site.

  12. Identifies security shortfalls via the organizational chain and offer suggestions for improving the security program.

  13. Maintains documentation and follows standardized procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY:

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must have or willing to obtain a valid Washington State Driver's License

  • Must have a reliable means of communication (i.e., cellphone).

  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).

  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.

  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must be willing to participate in the Company's and Client's pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma is required. Work experience in the security industry, public service(police, fire), or military is desired.

COMPETENCIES (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/ortesting):

  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.

  • Must successfully complete classroom and on the job training.

  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet requirements for specific skills, certifications or authorizations specified for the assigned accounts.

  • Oral and written communications skills. Must be able to read, write, and understand English.

  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license for state of assignment and insurable driving record.

  • Capable of learning a variety of security and safety devices and controls.

  • Basic computer skills are required.

  • Excellent customer service skills with results orientation.

  • Ability to track and maintain schedule assignments.

  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.

  • Ability to act effectively without immediate supervision in making judgments regarding site policy and procedures in the absence of supervision, and to follow up on actions taken.

  • Ability to be a highly effective team member and to work with little or no direct supervision.

  • Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.

  • Ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.

  • Ability to be an effective leader and member of project teams.

  • Ability to take initiative and achieve results.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff, and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.

  • May be required to work varied hours of the day or night, weekends, holidays, and overtime without advance notice.

  • Frequent climbing of enclosed ladder and while on ladder lifting roof hatch of up to 40 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.

  • Depending upon assignment, may be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.

  • May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.

  • On occasion may be required to perform stressful and physical activity.

  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds, occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and additional lifting and/or moving ability as might be required for the assigned site.

  • Occasional pulling of a chain to lift a shipping and receiving door; occasional pushing and pulling of a roller gate.

  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Handling and being exposed to sensitive and confidential information.

  • May require regular use of vehicle and frequent travel in the performance of duties.
