Microsoft’s Corporate, External & Legal Affairs organization (CELA) seeks a Corporate Counsel to support the Microsoft’s Azure for Operators initiative. As nations deploy 5G, new cloud- and edge-based approaches to connectivity will enable breakthrough technologies,includingautonomous vehicles,smart cities, virtual reality, and Internet-of-Thingsuse-cases. Microsoft’s Azure for Operators initiative, built on the acquisitions of industry leaders Affirmed Networks and Metaswitch Networks, and on the development of Azure Edge Zones, provides Microsoft with a unique ability to support governments, telecommunications operators, and enterprises on this journey.

This position is located in Redmond, WA.


  • Legal Advice and Counsel - Proactively identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies on a broad range of domestic and international issues, including privacy, accessibility, intellectual property, telecommunications, and more.

  • Commercial contracts – Partner across legal and business teams to structure, draft and negotiate complex licensing and collaboration agreements.

  • Solution Implementation - Develop scalable solutions that anticipate and mitigate legal and other risks. Implement process improvements that increase efficiencies and decrease risk.


  • J.D. or equivalent and active license to practice law

  • At least 3 years as a practicing attorney

  • Experience negotiating complex commercial transactions

  • Prior experience with cloud technologies and/or the telecommunications industry preferred

  • Keen business sense and ability to think strategically

  • Ability to exercise confident judgment in ambiguous situations

  • The ability to simplify the complex. The ability to communicate clearly, diplomatically, and effectively to clients and colleagues at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to establish a trusted advisor relationship across varied constituents.

  • Technical Acumen. Ability to develop technical and industry expertise in next generation connectivity solutions. Must feel confident explaining technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences.
