Microsoft Corporation Chief of Staff, Data Platform + Growth in Redmond, Washington

We are looking for a new Chief of Staff to lead the Data Platform + Growth (DPG) team within the Experience + Devices group.

The DPG team has a threefold charter focused both on building products, driving strategic growth initiatives for the Experiences + Devices (E+D) group, and managing the digital experience for Microsoft’s 220K+ employees. DPG’s direct product scope spans development of Microsoft Viva and the IDEAS data platform. DPG is also home to the FastTrack organization that drives customer success and growth for our Modern Work and Security products, and to the E+D Strategy Team. Finally, Microsoft Digital is responsible for managing the company’s global information technology services including our corporate network, devices, business applications, and core infrastructure.

Chief of Staff, Data Platform + Growth

As a member of the leadership team, the Chief of Staff reports to the Corporate Vice President (CVP) of DPG. As the CVP’s right hand, you are accountable for day-to-day business operations execution, partnering with Finance on budgeting and planning, leadership team enablement, team communications, partnering with HR on team culture, and assisting in strategic planning for DPG. The Chief of Staff will often participate and/or lead cross-organizational strategic, planning, or operational initiatives. This individual will also be an important member of the broader E+D LT Chief of Staff community, running the overall rhythm for the E+D EVP’s Monthly Product Review (MPR). And finally, this role is also the ‘dotted line’ leader of the broader DPG business operations team, which includes 40+ professionals across business support, business program management and business management.

In this role, you will demonstrate a mix of strategic thought leadership, sound product / business judgement, and pragmatic execution skills. You will also demonstrate collaboration and will enjoy partnering with a wide range of teams, demonstrating “One Microsoft” attitude. Being privy to very high business impact information, you will treat sensitive data / issues with utmost confidentiality and integrity. And finally, you will demonstrate judgement, knowing when to lead and when to be in the background.

Responsibilities

L eadership team enablement and Communications

  • Partner with Executive Administrator to ensure that the CVP’s time is well managed and prioritized.

  • Oversee and support the development of oral and written communication needs for the CVP.

  • Orchestrate successful execution of all customer engagements –1:1’s (One-on-Ones), EBCs (Executive Briefings), Field visits, etc.

  • Proactively identify and unblock obstacles that inhibit the performance of the LT( Leadership Team).

  • Organize and runeffective DPGLT meetings with mix of operational and business / product topics.

  • Cultivate cross-organizational relationships with stakeholders and partners to ensure alignment.

  • Oversee and drive the Experiences + Devices MPR, including identifying opportunities for key topic coverage, managing topic intake, agenda preparation, workback management, day-oflogistics, and communication of documents & actions.

  • Drive a robust internal communications calendar including Townhalls, Partner AMAs (Ask me Anything), Manager check-ins, etc. to generate energy and drive clarity across the organization.

  • Use formal and informal listening systems to assess and continually improve organizational health.

  • Partner with the DPG LT and HR Director to create a diverse and inclusive environment. 

Business and Product Strategy Development

  • Partner with the CVP to set and drive the overall business / product strategy and priorities.

  • Act as sounding board for CVP for key strategic decisions – e.g. portfolio allocation.

  • Drive high value executive deliverables such as SLT (Senior Leadership Team) whitepapers, updates, etc.

Business operations , budgeting and execution

  • Manage the overall ROB (Rythm of Business) for the organization, driving workbacks and accountability.

  • Ensure the organization meets all required compliance and learning requirements.

  • Partner with GTA to meet hiring requirements with high velocity and degree of inclusiveness.

  • Partner closely with financeon ensure budget and resourcing are aligned to top business priorities.

  • Drive effective budget and headcount decisions, clarifying and helping make tradeoffs as needed.

Qualifications

Required *Qualifications *

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles

o OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 10+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles

o OR Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 7+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles

o OR equivalent experience.

  • 5 + years people management experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently navigate high degree of ambiguity with velocity.

  • Demonstrated broad horizontal thinking, with ability to nail the details and with quality execution.

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written comprehension and communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated Ability to collaborate, influence and drive outcomes without direct authority.

  • Demonstrated executive presence with gravitas and ability to hold their own with executives.

  • Demonstrated ability to create, nurture and leverage effective relationships.

  • Demonstrated High degree of intellectual curiosity around product and business.

Business Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
