As the Business Operations Standards Lead for Microsoft Data Centers Operations, you will serve as the governing authority responsible for establishing and maintaining operational standards across Microsoft’s global data centers. This position demands a deep understanding of mission-critical environments and a commitment to delivering global consistency. Your role is crucial in maintaining consistency, accountability, and excellence in business operations by setting standards for supplier management, logistics sparing, operational forecasting, budgeting, and financial processing. You will also monitor performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Microsoft’s global data center operations.

Responsibilities

The Business Operations Standards Lead accountability extends to gathering and documenting requirements from stakeholders related to relevant standards.

This includes securing robust business justifications for any suggested changes or enhancements. You will implement a comprehensive tracking and reporting system for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within the standards, offering clear insights into performance and compliance.

A significant part of responsibility will be to create and implement governance frameworks that promote consistency, accountability, and transparency across all regions, ensuring that standards are adhered to at every level of the organization. You will take a proactive approach in monitoring compliance with established standards across all data centers, providing regions with the necessary data and tools to enhance adherence. Collaborating closely with Continuous Evaluation Program (CEP) teams to verify compliance with internal guidelines and Standards requirements. Additionally, you will manage the exceptions protocol, ensuring that any deviations from the standards are thoroughly justified with regional approvals.

Quality control is a critical aspect of this role. You will be responsible for addressing and tracking all queries, suggestions, and exceptions, ensuring they are resolved promptly and effectively. Collaborating with business requirement owners, you will ensure that all requirements and KPIs meet the necessary quality standards before they are reviewed and approved. Consistency will need to be maintained across all documents by enforcing a review and approval process for all related documents.

Finally, you will drive continuous improvement by extracting and implementing ideas gathered from various intake tools, collaborating with other business requirement inputs to update standards and relevant documents as needed. You will reassess exceptions and adjust criteria within standards, ensuring they remain relevant and effective. By facilitating communication and collaboration between central and regional teams, you will help maintain consistent application of standards and foster a culture of ongoing improvement across the organization.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or MBA).

  • Demonstrate leadership and collaboration abilities.

  • Ability to make decisions including how to define, diagnose, and determine an appropriate resolution, recommendation, or decision while considering alternatives.

  • Experience in data center operations or a similar infrastructure environment.

  • Experience in business operations, governance, or standards development, with a focus on compliance, process improvement, and data analysis.

  • Analytical skills, with the ability to derive insights from complex data sets.

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing operational standards and governance frameworks.

  • Expertise in performance management, KPI tracking, and compliance monitoring.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and quality control processes.

  • Project management skills with a history of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
