The Substrate Core organization is seeking an experienced Business Manager to support business operations and organizational health. Substrate Core (SCore) is the core of Substrate and is the team that delivers the service fabric layer between Azure and M365 Services that meets the unique needs of scale, resilience, and compliance of M365. SCore builds the infrastructure, management, and data platforms of Substrate.

We provide the 1st and 3rd party developer service ecosystem for Microsoft 365 and the base set of rich set of intelligent primitives for developing, deploying, experimenting, and running E+D services that leverage rich Office data and insights in a compliant manner. SCore builds core horizontal services across work and life identities, data, and insights.

We are looking for a Business Manager who can help us optimize our resources and streamline our processes to deliver top notch business results and customer experience. As the Business Manager, you will report to the CVP of Substrate Core and partner closely with the Chief of Staff and the leadership team, engineering teams, and key partners across the company, including Finance, Recruiting, and HR in addition to other Business Managers and Chiefs of Staff.  

This position is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the Business operating rhythm and provides insight and advice to the LT around operational excellence, budget and headcount management, resource and fiscal planning, D&I initiatives, and participates in overall group strategy decisions. This role will work in partnership with the Leadership Team to ensure key business milestones are achieved, in addition to report on business health initiatives. In addition, this role will work closely with Business Support Team to ensure the business runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with Engineering, Product, Chief of Staff, and Leadership, help plan resource management and allocation to align with the business strategy. 

  • Partner with finance and drive the financial management process, including planning and execution, cost management, and resource planning.  

  • Plan and facilitate Leadership staff meetings and strategy planning sessions. 

  • Support business health reporting initiatives.  

  • Support cross-org projects and initiatives to meet the changing business environment and manage complex business needs.  

  • Provide internal and external communication support to the CVP.  

  • Work with Chief of Staff to define and operationalize improvements to the team’s communication strategy inclusive of SharePoint design, new communication mediums, deck templates, and more.  

  • Streamline business processes across the business unit, optimizing quality, efficiency, and effective resource management.  This includes the development of business processes and tools to continuously improve organizational efficiency.  

  • Create and manage on-going review cadence for key team metrics.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 4+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with financial tracking and analysis. 

  • Experience with resource and headcount management. 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of corporate organization and culture and ability to navigate it successfully.

  • Cross-team collaboration & organizational skills.  

  • Formal training or experience in project and process management, financial accounting, business management and/or operations.   

  • Project management skills, with the proven ability to drive for results across a distributed set of stakeholders and projects.   

Business Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.
