The Microsoft Turing team is an innovative research and engineering team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models to power end user experiences across the company. Applied scientists and software engineers in the Turing team work together to push the boundaries of large-scale deep learning models on Turing’s world class distributed training infrastructure. The team is pioneering search and the core copilot experiences across Microsoft’s ecosystem.
In addition to ensuring that Microsoft is pushing the state-of-the-art large-scale models, the Turing team also works on improving experiences across Microsoft’s products and services by working on high value scenarios. This role requires you to be onsite 3 days a week in Microsoft's offices in Redmond, WA and/or Sunnyvale, CA. Responsibilities
You will gain expertise in one or more subareas of research and understand applicable research techniques. You’ll also gain deep knowledge of a service, platform, or domain, and become familiar with the latest industry trends and applied technologies.
You will apply strategies provided by senior team members and incorporate state-of-the-art research. You’ll also develop an understanding of methods used in the community and gain expertise in a deeply specialized area.
As you reinforce a positive environment by applying best practices, you will also support mentorship and assist with the onboarding of entry-level team members. Additionally, you will maintain ties with an external network of peers and identify prospective talent, when asked.
You will document work in progress and share findings to promote innovation within a group. You’ll also learn and follow ethics and privacy policies while executing research processes or collecting information.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience coding in C++, C#, C, Java or Python.
2+ years experience in applying deep learning techniques and drive end-to-end AI product development (Search, Recommendation, NLP - natural language processing, Document Understanding, etc).
2+ years of experience with common machine learning, deep learning frameworks like Pytorch/Tensorflow.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
Able to effectively work end-to-end in a challenging technical problem domain (plan, design, execution, continuous release, and service operation).
Experience with shipping internet scale, low latency and high throughput systems AI products.
Customer/End-result/Metrics driven in design and development.
Strong publication track records at top conferences like ACL (Association for Computational Linguistics), EMNLP (Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing), SIGKDD (Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining), AAAI (Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence), WSDM (Web Search and Data Mining), COLING (International Conference on Computational Linguistics), WWW (World Wide Web Conference), NIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems), ICASSP (International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing), etc.
Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
