INSTITUTE FOR SYSTEMS Research Assistant (Data Science) in Queen Anne, Washington

The Research Assistant (Data Science) utilizes various computational techniques and procedures to analyze data in support of research, and may be responsible for specific areas of research in collaboration with a scientist or other technicians. Normally receives minimal instructions on routine work, and direction and more detailed instructions on new assignments. Essential Duties: Sets up and operates standard computational tools and working environments. Executes basic research plans and studies utilizing established scientific methods and protocols. Implements basic scripts for performing and automating computational tasks. Contributes to preparing research reports and summaries. Develops knowledge of current topics and research in areas of scientific work. Makes detailed observations and organizes data for analyses. Acquires and performs various computational and statistical techniques and procedures. Accesses and operates various computers and analysis servers. Keeps detailed records in lab notebooks in accordance with company policy. Attends seminars/meetings to enhance knowledge in company objectives and scientific discipline. Informs senior staff of inconsistencies or problems with projects or data. Maintains functional operation of computational equipment. Fully complies with all company data access & privacy procedures and practices. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Required Education, Skills & Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) Two (2) or more months of experience working in a computational laboratory setting or one (1) or more year(s) of coursework in biology, computer science, or related field; equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute Ability to complete all required safety and regulatory training prior to starting work Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse population and range of personalities All ISB staff members are expected to have baseline technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately over email, the intranet/forum, etc. Employees should be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint at a functional level. Physical Demands: Frequently requires repeating motions that may include hands, wrist, or fingers (e.g. using a computer keyboard); reaching with hands and arms.
