Available Title(s): 602J-YYCSNPS - Stationary Engineer 1, 602K-YYCSNPS - Stationary Engineer 2 Business Title: Stationary Engineer 1 & 2 Employee Type: Classified Position Details: Summary of Duties: As a Stationary Engineer in Washington State University, under general supervision, you will be expected to perform a variety of duties in support of the Facilities Services Steam Plants. You will participate in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment and systems to include: high pressure boilers, electrical generators, water treatment equipment/systems, condensate distribution equipment, pumps, air compressors, steam line operating components, and computer controlled operations of plant systems. Required Qualifications: Stationary Engineer 1: • Two years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems OR certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college AND one year of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems OR equivalent education/experience. • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year, a Boiler Operator, Second Class from the City of Spokane, the National Institute of Uniform Licensing Engineers or other departmental approved agency. Stationary Engineer 2: • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems OR Certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college AND two years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems OR one year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1 OR equivalent education/experience. • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months, a Boiler Operator, First Class from the City of Spokane, the National Institute of Uniform Licensing Engineers or other departmental approved agency. • First Aid, CPR, and AED training are required annually. • Ability to respond to worksite on a 24-hour basis. For All Applicants: • Must be able to work a rotating shift as necessary based on Plant operational needs. • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/ and departmental driving standards. Preferred Qualifications: Stationary Engineer 1: • Water treatment certification, man-lift training and certification, and fork-lift training and certification. Stationary Engineer 2: • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering education and/or degree. For All Applicants: • Experience within the last 5 years as a high pressure steam boiler operator in a steam plant utilizing a computer operated, distributed control system. • Recent experience operating 1MW or larger gas or diesel-fired electrical generators.
