Available Title(s): 306-YN_FACULTY - Postdoctoral Research Associate Business Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate - Appleyard Lab Employee Type: Faculty (+) (Fixed Term) Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: The Suzanne Appleyard laboratory has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a National Institute of Health-funded research program. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work to understand the mechanisms of neurotrophic factors, such as leptin, and their effects on synaptic function and development, and who have demonstrated expertise in cellular/molecular neuroscience and proficiency in, or interest in learning electrophysiological techniques. The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (https://ipn.vetmed.wsu.edu/) is an academic unit of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (https://wsu.edu/). International neuroscience faculty within the department form highly collaborative research units that study synaptic function, development, ingestive behavior, stress, substance abuse, and sleep neurobiology. Thus, the candidate will have ample opportunities for collaboration and co-mentoring. Furthermore, the department offers baccalaureate and doctoral degree programs in Neuroscience, in addition to postdoctoral training. The department is housed in an award-winning, ultra-modern BSL-2 research facility on the Pullman campus of Washington State University, and it is equipped with state-of-the-art microscopy, imaging, electrophysiology, cell biology, and behavioral testing equipment. Required Qualifications: • Recent Ph.D. in neuroscience or in another relevant field (e.g., physiology, biology). • Evidence of strong background, experience and research productivity in the biomedical sciences with preference to the neurosciences. • Excellent writing skills. Preferred Qualifications: • An Interest in cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying control of synaptic function and development, with an emphasis in the role of neurotrophic factors, such as leptin. • Experience in patch clamp electrophysiology, molecular techniques, pharmacology and use of mouse models.
