Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Mechanical Designer I in Pullman, Washington

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Mechanical Designer position. Primary focus is using CAD programs to design electrical components and 3D models for printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Create detailed Electrical Component designs under the supervision of a technical lead.

  2. Support engineers by providing technical design details to collaborate on solutions.

  3. Support team members in collaborative assignments.

  4. Complete assigned work and submit within timelines and budgets with a high level of quality.

  5. Develop and maintain an acceptable level of knowledge of Component Creation Guidelines and Processes.

  6. Develop and maintain an acceptable level of expertise in industry design practices.

  7. Develop and maintain an acceptable level of knowledge of SEL standards for design for manufacturability and reliability.

  8. Use best available processes and tools and provide feedback on process enhancements.

  9. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

  10. Understand. Create. Simplify.

  11. Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    Associates degree in EET, CAD, Drafting, or relevant discipline; or possess equivalent experience for each academic year

    Ability to learn concepts and technical details of designs

    Ability to work with a moderate level of technical supervision

    Ability to accept ownership of assignments and errors

    Demonstrated competency in CAD drafting and 3D Modeling (AutoCAD or SolidWorks)

    Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

    Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

    Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

    Background check results satisfactory to SEL

    Negative drug test result(s)

    Preferred Qualifications

    Possess a BSME, BSEE, BSET or related design degree from an accredited college or university

    Experience designing component footprints, symbols, or 3D Modeling with SolidWorks

    Experience with Mentor Graphics

    Experience participating on or leading project teams
