Instrument Maker 2 or 3 Title: 604G-YN - Instrument Maker 3 Business Title: Instrument Maker 2 or 3 Additional Titles: 604F-YN - Instrument Maker 2 Location: WSU PULLMAN CAMPUS Employee Type: Classified Job Family: Civil Service - OT Eligible Position Details: Summary of Duties: This recruitment is searching for an Instrument Maker 2 or 3 depending on applicant qualifications. Instrument Maker 2: This position supports VCEA Engineering Shop under general supervision, perform limited design and project coordination duties of part fabrication such as designing basic jigs and fixtures, determining set-up and machine settings for manufacturing parts, and troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment. Instrument Maker 3: This position supports VCEA Engineering Shop with complex design, fabrication, repair and maintenance of experimental apparatus and instruments for the research community in the College and University. This position will be responsible for performing complex high precision work on projects which require a diverse set of skills including CAD/CAM computer work, traditional and CNC machining, various types of welding processes, and an array of fabrication techniques with multiple materials. Due to the nature of the work this position must have the ability to set priorities for multiple projects from multiple sources and multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy. Required Qualifications: Instrument Maker 2: Two years of experience as an Instrument Maker 1; OR equivalent education/experience. Instrument Maker 3: Two years of experience as an Instrument Maker 2; OR equivalent education/experience plus demonstrated proficiency in metal fabrication techniques and computer aided design (CAD) programs such as Master Cam, Solidworks, or equivalent. Must have, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid unrestricted driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: Instrument Maker 2: • Two years of experience as an Instrument Maker 1 with emphasis on machining, CNC and conventional equipment, • Some background in limited design and project coordination duties of part fabrication such as designing basic jigs and fixtures, or equivalent education/experience. • Some experience determining set-up and machine settings for manufacturing parts, and troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment. Instrument Maker 3: • Two years of experience as an Instrument Maker 2 with emphasis on machining, CNC and conventional equipment, with some background in CAD/CAM and solids modeling, or equivalent education/experience. • Experience with welding processes, including Tig, Mig, Arc, oxy-acetylene, brazing and soldering. • Use of plasma cutting torch. • Other processes such as sheet metal fabrication, woodworking, mechanical and electrical skills, experience with plastics and composites, and instrumentation such as strain gauges, thermocouplers.
