Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories EH&S Ergonomics Intern in Pullman, Washington

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and maintenance of procedures (PROC), work instructions (WI), Best Known Methods (BKM), and records.

  • Conduct workstation and industrial ergonomic evaluations.

  • Conduct noise sampling for certain office and manufacturing areas and prepare technical sampling reports.

  • Assist in development and delivery of EH&S training for SEL employees.

  • Participate in active hazard control and incident prevention programs, assist in incident investigation to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

  • Assist with data collection and analysis used to evaluate SEL manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to eliminate or minimize risks.

  • Research applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations and ergonomic design standards for proposed manufacturing processes that may be implemented by SEL.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing college degree in Occupational Safety, Ergonomics, Human Factors, or other fields related to Environmental Health and Safety.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work part-time, up to 32 hours per week.

  • Strong data analysis, writing, documentation, and speaking skills.

  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL.

  • Negative drug test result(s).

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general workplace safety, occupational ergonomics.

  • Experience in ergonomic evaluation and risk assessment.

    Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Bending, lifting, reaching, and other activities required for measuring and collecting data during an ergonomic review.
