Professional Job Family: Administrative Professional - Not OT Eligible Position Details: Summary of Duties: Reporting to the Washington State University Alumni Association's (WSUAA) Director, Membership and Marketing (Director), the Communication Manager is responsible for the development and execution of communication strategies designed to increase membership in the WSUAA, engagement with the University, and, ultimately, greater philanthropic activity on the part of alumni, students, staff, faculty, and friends of the University. Working with minimal supervision, the Communication Manager will develop, write, edit, and oversee production of marketing and communication materials that will be distributed both electronically and in printed format. They will create content for membership initiatives and events, coordinate advertising and signage, and oversee special marketing efforts and projects as assigned. Required Qualifications: • A Bachelor's degree in public relations, mass communications or a relevant field AND three (3) years of professional experience in print or broadcast news media, public relations or marketing including proven experience with writing and editing skills; writing feature articles, brochures, annual reports and speeches; executing strategic communication plans and complex communication projects. • Demonstrated ability to define marketing and communications strategies, goals, and objectives, identify target audiences, and develop and implement strategic communications plans to accomplish goals. • Demonstrated knowledge of creative copywriting and copy editing for appropriate style, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and length. • Outstanding oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and be solutions-oriented. • Ability to function professionally under deadlines and sometimes stressful situations. • Ability to multitask and independently plan and organize work, meeting deadlines and producing high quality materials. • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly and easily. • Attention to detail, excellent proofreading skills, grasp of grammar, and punctuation and the ability to deliver a consistent style. • Familiarity with editorial style manuals, production techniques, printing specifications, brand guidelines and analytics. Preferred Qualifications: • Five or more years of experience managing marketing communications. • Mastery of best practices for digital marketing tools. • Familiarity with design software for the creation of print materials, videos, web content, podcasts and other marketing deliverables. • Connection to or familiarity with Washington State University.
