Allen School for Global Health (Allen School) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking to fill a permanent full-time faculty position with research emphasis that addresses the host response to zoonotic infectious diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative, productive, and extramurally funded laboratory and/or field-based research program that addresses cellular immune responses to infectious diseases. Preference will be given to candidates with research programs that complement and extend the expertise of current US and Africa-based Allen School faculty, inclined to research in zoonotic viral and bacterial pathogens and immunity. The Allen School is a dynamic mission-based interdisciplinary research unit with faculty based in Washington State, Kenya, Tanzania and Guatemala. Allen School research programs address connections between animal and human health, and related economic impacts. Our research mission is based on the fundamental understanding that human and animal health are inextricably linked. Often the connection is obvious, as is the case for zoonotic diseases where disease causing agents are transmitted directly from animals to humans. Other connections may be less obvious; for example when household nutrition or income is negatively affected by livestock diseases. This linkage between animal and human health exists throughout the world, yet the impact is most significant in low resource populations.
