Summary of Duties:
The Knott Dairy Assistant Manager reports to, assists, and supports the Knott Dairy Center Manager. In this role the incumbent must be able to fill-in and perform duties of Manager during their absence. Responsibilities include assisting the Manager with budget planning and forecasting, scheduling and directing personnel resources, and facilities care for major dairy herd and production (milking, calving, breeding, nutrition and feeding, health care, forage utilization, and pasture grazing schedules, livestock sales) to meet the milk supply needs of the WSU Creamery. In association with the Manager and other staff, the Assistant manager is responsible for ensuring that the KDC is a safe, clean, low-stress livestock environment suitable for teaching, research, extension and optimal milk production. In concert with the manager this position coordinates resources, time and facility issues, communication and organizational issues to coordinate multiple, and simultaneous use for teaching, research, and extension. The assistant manager may teach classes, and may facilitate research and data collection as assigned by the departmental chair. The Assistant Manager is a critical participant in the implementation of the dairy's animal care and nutrient management plans, as well as training of new staff and student employees. The Assistant Manager is an important representative of the Department of Animal Sciences and WSU to the dairy industry.
Required Qualifications:
• Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two (2) years of progressively responsible relevant experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Practical knowledge and experience with the dairy industry; knowledge of pasture management; knowledge and experience with budgeting and economic forecasting.
• A Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences or closely related field.
• A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.
• This position does not provide work visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Animal Sciences or related field.
• One year of teaching experience
