Professional Position Details: Summary of Duties: The Assistant Finance Director (AFD) for Research is a member of the CAHNRS finance leadership team, works closely with the Associate Dean of Research, and reports directly to the Finance Director. The AFD is responsible for assisting with the overall financial management and administrative functions of a large complex college with 3 separate mission areas, Academic Programs (03), Research (30), and Extension (41) with $200 Million in expenditures annually and only $50 Million in permanent funding. This position will financially support Research for all area budget, financial management and reporting including best management practices and consultive support, research capacity funds, royalties, F&A, fiscal notes, annual Budget Office considerations (allocations), provisos and all other research functions. The AFD is a "point of contact" (POC) for a block of units/cost centers generally (majority) aligned to Research. The AFD uses significant independent judgment including, but not limited to, overseeing accounting, budget (allocations), and finance including one time and reoccurring funding snap shots & projections, temporary & permanent commitments, assist in department process improvement, training, developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practices to ensure university, state and federal compliance and oversees or serves as an administrative liaison to college departments and relevant university business offices. Hybrid/Remote work options available Required Qualifications: • Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. • Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. • Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification. • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/ and departmental driving standards. • Ability and willingness to travel. Preferred Qualifications: • An additional six (6) years of progressively responsible experience for a total of ten (10) years of experience is preferred.
