Summary of Duties:

 

This position is responsible for managing all administrative functions (finance, payroll, purchasing, procurement, and property) in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) at Washington State University.

 

VCS is the largest department in WSU's College of Veterinary Medicine with expertise in teaching, clinical service/teaching and research. VCS holds the academic appointment of all faculty with clinical duties, in addition to those who provide didactic and laboratory teaching and conduct research. Enterprise units, Simulation-Based Education program and the Seattle-based One Health Clinic round out the breadth of the department activities supported by the position. VCS staffing includes 66 faculty and 18 support staff. VCS has an operational budget of over $16,000,000.

 

The VTH is the largest teaching laboratory within WSU and is the primary educational location for delivery of curricular content to 135 students in the fourth year of the professional veterinary degree program and provides a training ground for over 70 specialty interns and residents seeking post-DVM certification in a variety of veterinary medical fields. It offers over 20 specialty service units operates, a full-service Pharmacy, and a Clinical Pathology laboratory which further the educational and service missions of the organization. In 2023, the VTH served a client base of nearly 20,000 small and large animals with service center revenue of over $16,000,000. Additional sources of revenue combine for a total operating budget of nearly $20,000,000. The VTH employs nearly 40 FTE faculty positions, 44 licensed veterinary technicians, 90 support personnel, and over 150 temporary employees on the Pullman campus.

 

This position is responsible for developing, planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the administrative and financial functions for the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The position has advisory, budgetary, managerial, and supervisory duties and responsibility for independent decision making regarding the daily administrative operations of the units. The duties of this position include collaborating with VCS Department Chair, the VTH Chief Medical Officer and the VTH Chief Operations Officer in formulating and communicating policies and best practices for the organization. It will act on behalf of these positions as needed in financial and personnel matters.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
