Summary of Duties:

 

The majority of the incumbent's responsibilities include duties involving academic counseling and advising for undergraduate students within the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering. These duties include, but are not limited to, analyzing applications for certification and assessing academic level; responding to academic inquiries; developing individual academic plans and educating students in the areas of academic planning; interpretation of degree, department, school, college and university requirements; career exploration and other related matters; counseling nonstudents about possible admission to university programs; and providing academic planning advice for those prospective transfer students. Other duties include processing and maintaining student records for undergraduate students in the School, and assisting the Undergraduate Studies Committee Chairperson in administering the undergraduate program, preparing reports, and responding to inquiries regarding undergraduate student program policies and procedures.

 

The position may participate in coordinating student recruitment and mentoring events; arranging for campus visits; logistical coordination of meetings, along with the minute taking and dissemination of the information; maintaining program and course data and managing curriculum updates; processing records and forms for student certification; developing educational and recruitment materials; website updates and maintenance; coordination of exit interviews for students; and assisting in meeting applicable accreditation requirements.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

 

• Demonstrated experience with computer software and programs, specifically the Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn new software and programs quickly.

 

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment.

 

• Demonstrated ability to extrapolate and tabulate data from online databases.

 

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.

 

• Master's degree in related field.

 

• Knowledge of curriculum management practices, processes and policies.

 

• Experience working with and maintaining student records.

 

• Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.
