Incumbent performs a variety of duties in order to tend and maintain boilers, including firing boiler, observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts. This position has a competitive wage of $40.02 per hour. Benefits include: $6.85 per hour for Health and Welfare, $5.02 per hour contributed to the IOUE Central Pension, (both capped at 40 hours per week). Eleven paid holidays, and PTO starting at 10 hours per month. There is a contract year clothing allowance of $360.00 for protective clothing and/or ANSI compliant safety shoes effective 90 days after start date. Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions: Tend to one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water for use in an establishment. Responsible for firing boiler. Observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of boiler operations. Adjust controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operations and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water. Maintain logs to record cleaning, oil, minor repairs or assisting in minor repairs to boiler equipment. Maintains distribution of piping systems and steam traps. Follow prescribed methods of treating boiler water with chemical and analyzing boiler water for such things as acidity, causticity and alkalinity. Provide all operator maintenance associated with watch standing, including certification of main plant boilers, zone boilers and steam distribution systems as well as maintaining cleanliness in buildings and systems. Performs other tasks as assigned. Job Requirements Mandatory: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED). American Society of Power Engineers, Power Plant Operating Engineer Second Class License or able to obtain license in 3 months. Must have five years of boiler experience. Speak, read, and write English. Ability to successfully pass a background check, drug test, and physical as required. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's License without a major violation or three or more incidents in the past 36 mo. U.S. Citizenship.
