City of Port Orchard Permit Clerk in Port Orchard, Washington

The City of Port Orchard is recruiting for one position at the Community Development Permit Center. This position may be filled at either a Permit Clerk or a Permit Technician level, depending on qualifications. An abbreviated summary for each position is listed below. Permit ClerkMajor Function and Purpose: Performs skilled clerical duties and also provides administrative support necessary for the efficient operations of the Community Development Permit Center. The role’s primary focus is in Public Works permit processing and the associated file management and recordkeeping.Pay Range: $24.68 to $28.63 per hour ($51,334 - $59,550 per year)Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED and three years prior office experience or graduation from a business college. Prior office experience, including use of office equipment and machines is required. Must have experience utilizing computer software including MS Office (Word, Publisher, Power Point, Outlook and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. At least two years working for a municipal or other government agency, one year of professional experience in a comparable position, Microsoft Office Specialist certification in Word and Excel, prior experience with SMARTGov or other permitting database program, working knowledge of record retention schedules as applied to public works files, and familiarity with City of Port Orchard Development Guidelines is desirable.Any combination of experience and training that provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. Permit TechnicianMajor Function and purpose: The Permit Technician reviews applications, reads and interprets information, explains permitting code concepts to customers, determines level of advanced review required and routes applications as appropriate, issues permits within scope of authority, and performs all duties of a Permit Clerk in to support the efficient operations of DCD’s Permit Center.Pay Range: $27.65 to $32.07 per hour ($57.812 - $66,706 per year)Minimum Requirements: ICC Permit Technician Certification, three years office experience, at least two of which include building, engineering, planning, zoning, land use, municipal permitting or similar, and HS diploma/GED, are required. Prior experience with Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat professional programs, SmartGov or other electronic permit tracking system, public record retention schedules, and Port Orchard Municipal Codes is preferred.
