Small Pump Mechanic

Job Description

This position is under the general direction of the Pump Shop Manager and is responsible for teardown, evaluation, documentation, and repair of water pumps and product pumps common to irrigation, food processing, and other fluid handling applications.

Responsibilities

  • Remove, disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and evaluate malfunctioning pumps and provide inspection reports.

  • Record all data necessary to complete inspection reports, including all imperative information required to aid in the estimating and pump rebuild process.

  • Mic and make the correct assessment of bearing and seal fit tolerances.

  • Assess runout on rotating assemblies.

  • Install bearings, shafts, seals, and mechanical seals.

  • Perform pump installation and laser alignments.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing problems associated with pump or pumping equipment, including mechanical components, fits, and tolerances.

  • Use measuring devices such as micrometers (inside and outside), dial indicators, calipers, etc., to ensure proper sizing.

  • Utilize various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools including band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, end wrenches, air impacts, pullers, hydraulic press, etc.

  • Keep work area neat and clean.

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and assist other staff as directed by supervisor or management.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in mechanics.

  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending measuring devices.

  • Ability to be a self-starter and self-motivated.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication (written and verbal) skills.

  • Ability to work well with coworkers and lead by example.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Must possess at least three (3) years of previous work experience as a mechanic.

  • Previous work experience as a small pump mechanic preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to occasionally work long hours to complete emergency repair work and perform rotational on-call duties.

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Driving Abstract to be submitted with application for employment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $36.00/hr.
