MPL Mechanical Technician – Pasco, WA

Marathon Pipe Line Company is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician. The position is based at Marathon Pipe Line’s Pasco, WA facility and reports to the Area Manager. A Mechanical Technician works in and around petroleum products, truck loading, and barge facilities executing Maintenance and Reliability activities and provides field support to various other MPL processes and departments. The successful candidate will perform maintenance, reliability, and operational duties including, but not limited to repairing and maintaining valves, pumps, vapor recovery unit/combustor, tank equipment, strainers, meters, truck rack loading equipment, barge equipment, and butane blending equipment. The successful candidate should have the ability to troubleshoot problems, work independently and in a team environment, and prioritize job duties. Job duties must be performed in accordance with all regulations in support of DOT, US Coast Guard, Environmental, Safety, and Regulatory compliance. Travel, callouts and overtime will be required on an as-needed basis. Successful candidate will be required to live within 45 minutes of the reporting location in Pasco, WA and will need to pass a non-CDL DOT driver physical to operate the company assigned vehicle, and all employees are trained at the HAZWOPER 24hr Technician Level as First Responders, First Aid, and CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance activities including but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Vibrating monitoring and analysis

  • Inspect, install, and maintain major / minor relief valves

  • Mainline, booster, and truck rack pump maintenance, repair, and alignment

  • Lubricant changes

  • Install / repair stainless steel tubing

  • DOT mainline inspections

  • Flange bolting and assembly

  • Valve and actuator maintenance and repair

  • Maintaining bi-directional provers

  • Barge hose hydrotesting

  • Coordinate and communicate maintenance activities.

  • Respond to breakdowns, alarms, and field callouts and communicate findings to appropriate parties.

  • Generate computerized work requests for maintenance tasks.

  • Support project work within the area and other MPL/Terminal locations as needed

  • Perform work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner in accordance with all Environmental, Safety and Regulatory requirements

  • Support operations and provide rotational on-call support

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.

  • Associate’s degree in a related technical field is preferred.

  • Strong electrical or PLC programming knowledge preferred.

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills.

  • Previous pipeline experience with emphasis on mechanical skills is highly preferred.

  • Experience with medium voltage electrical equipment and controls/PLCs is a plus.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

  • Must be able to pass a general background check as well as a Motor Vehicle Background check.

  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to work at the Pasco, WA facility.
