Columbia Basin College Human Resources Consultant 1 - Student Employment in Pasco, Washington

Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or "the College") seeks a Human Resources Consultant 1 (HRC1) to perform a variety of first-level professional and confidential duties in support of the College's on-campus Student Employment Program. This responsibility includes working independently to interpret and apply College, employment and federal work study guidelines, rules, policies and procedures. The HRC1 will work strategically with departments to identify and support existing and evolving initiatives related to Student Employment by coordinating student employee placement and processing, thereby enhancing students' experiential education.  As a front-line position supporting students, staff and the public, superior knowledge of processes and excellent customer service is a must.   This position is responsible for ensuring a positive student employee experience as it relates to all student employee interactions and processes through HR.  This position reports to the Director for Talent Acquisition & Employee Development.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform all aspects of Student Employment, including recruitment and advertising of Student Employment positions, placement of student employees within departments and timely processing of applicable hiring paperwork in the Onboard system;
  • Assist student employees and supervisors in navigating through Student Employment Program processes, including the hiring process, explanation of eligibility and deadlines, completion of application materials and other employment forms, submitting timecards for accurate payroll processing, etc.;
  • Serve as the front-line contact for staff, students, visitors and/or the general public accessing student employment services in the Human Resources Office;
  • Develop advertising and outreach programs that aid in student employee recruitment and retention, including coordinating and participating in job fairs, National Student Employee Appreciation Week, National Student Employee of the Year, etc.;
  • Seek out opportunities to present workshops and informational meetings to students, supervisors and the rest of campus to make them aware of the College's student employment services;
  • Remain current on federal work study and other employment laws and regulations; implement changes within the Student Employment Program as needed to maintain compliance;
  • Make recommendations for and maintain the Student Employment website, supervisor resources and handbook with updated and pertinent information;
  • Develop and conduct appropriate orientation and training sessions for student employees and supervisors;
  • Coordinate with the Financial Aid Office as needed to ensure proper oversight of the Student Employment Program;
  • Receive, process and maintain all employment applications in the online applicant tracking system for adjunct faculty and temporary hourly's; create and organize job announcement position files; score applicant files for appropriateness of skills, experience and knowledge in relation to position requirements and release qualifying applications for review by the search committee or hiring manager; 
  • Maintain the recruitment and advertising of adjunct and temporary hourly positions, placement of those employee types within departments and timely processing of applicable hiring paperwork in the Onboard system; and
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
