Professional Job Family: Administrative Professional - Not OT Eligible Position Details: Summary of Duties: Manage honey bee service centers and operations at the Othello Honey Bee and Pollinator Research building. Maintain a large number of honey bee colonies and manage all operations related to beekeeping based at the Othello Honey Bee and Pollinator Research building. The candidate will be directing and controlling many of the apiaries' daily operations, including managing bee colonies, assembling woodenware, operating forklifts, harvesting and extracting honey, and other tasks as needed for program operations. Qualified candidates must be available to travel to various apiary sites across Washington and some extended stays in California. Hours and schedules can range based on seasonal requirements. Including hours into late night/early morning; some weekends might be required. We are looking for an individual who is organized and communicates well. The successful candidate will balance the requirements of colony management needed to assist research goals and maintain a modest functional pollination program of around 400 honey bee colonies. Responsible for direct supervision of staff at the facility and staff visiting the facility. The incumbent will supervise employees to assist in beekeeping duties; they will manage operations and services including finical planning, budgets, and allocation of resources. The successful candidate will also be working with employees in the field performing beekeeping duties. Good communication skills are key for interactions with stakeholders, land owners, students and PI's. Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver's license by the time of hire. • Must be able and willing to travel. • Ability to reason logically and solve problems proactively. • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to effectively interact with people in a positive manner. • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Have or ability to obtain forklift operators certification.
