The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the recruitment for a Custodian 1 (on-call) at our Washington Soldiers Home. This job is located at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting.

This position works on-call.

WDVA operates four Medicare/Medicaid and Federal VA Certified Veterans Homes in Port Orchard, Orting, Spokane, and Walla Walla providing nursing care for honorably discharged veterans, to include, in some instances, their spouses, widows or gold star parents.?

_Some of what you will be doing: _ This position performs a variety of custodial tasks required in the routine cleaning of facility buildings. This position directly effects the quality of life and health of residents of the Washington Soldiers Home.

Key Responsibilities: Vacuum carpets as required to maintain a clean, spot free, and odor free condition.

Mop, disinfect, strip, and wax floors as required to maintain a uniform glossy appearance.

Sweep and mop stairwells. Maintain baseboards free of dirt and wax build-up.

Empty trash and maintain receptacles free of odors.

Perform various housekeeping, custodial, and maintenance related tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of facility.

Ability to use brooms, buffers, carpet extractors, chemical dispensers, dollies, floor scrubbers, mops, mob buckets, personal protective equipment, vacuums, ladders, etc. in the performance of custodial work.


_Required Qualifications: _ Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning and caring for floors, walls, fixtures, and furniture.

Must be able to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in large scale housekeeping, janitorial, building maintenance or custodial work in a health care facility, hospital, or nursing home.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

Must comply with health screening requirements by undergoing a tuberculosis skin test.
