This position is exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules. Position Purpose This position provides vision, leadership, and oversight for the development and execution of programs and services for the office of BIPOC & LGBTQ+ Intersectional Support Services (BLISS) while creating a welcoming, supportive, and nurturing environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQIA+) students and their allies. The position facilitates cultural programming, leadership development, and community partnerships for BLISS. The incumbent supervises Peer Navigator student employees throughout the academic year. The position serves as an advisor, advocate, and resource to LGBTQ+ students and the Evergreen community. As BLISS serves a diverse student body, demonstrated cultural competency in race and ethnicity is a must. Nature and Scope This position reports to the Director of BLISS. BLISS is a functional area within the Division of Student Engagement, Equity, and Support (SEES). BLISS provides services designed to enhance the educational experience of a diverse student population and improve retention and graduation rates through support on academic, personal, and career matters, academic interventions and innovations, referrals to on and off-campus resources, campus-wide educational and cultural programming in support of diversity and inclusion, and community building and belonging activities for students, staff, and faculty. BLISS uplifts and centers the lived experiences of Evergreen's BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and undocumented students through an intersectional approach that values the multiple identities of the student. Essential Functions BLISS Contribute to collective visioning, goal setting, delivery, and assessment of services within BLISS. Participate in staff meetings, retreats, and ongoing professional development activities. Participate in quarterly performance evaluations, self-evaluations, and evaluations of student staff. Contribute to the development and expansion of collaborative initiatives across curricular and co-curricular domains, including partnerships with Academic and Career Advising, Access Services, TRIO Student Success, the House of Welcome Education and Cultural Center, Student Activities, Residential and Dining Services, and Student Wellness Services. Facilitate positive student interactions within BLISS functional areas by modeling effective interpersonal and intercultural communication, managing conflict resolution, and complying with campus-wide policies for student conduct, bias, harassment, and more.
