The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Washington Geological Survey (Geology) Division. Are you someone who enjoys field work and wants to make a positive impact on local communities by contributing to seismic resiliency at Washington's public schools? The Washington Geological Survey (WGS) is seeking geophysical assistants to join a team working on our School Seismic Safety Project. The project plays an important role in assessing seismic vulnerability at public schools across the state of Washington by collecting valuable geologic/geophysical information to be used by school districts, engineers, and researchers responsible for evaluating the earthquake resiliency of school structures. Successful applicants will join a team of scientists charged with the associated data collection for seismic site characterization using geophysical methods and techniques to accurately assess each campus. The positions require basic geologic knowledge, being physically fit, and a strong interest in working outdoors. You will be expected to work independently to meet project objectives. The positions require interaction with the public and interested parties, so good communication skills are a must. The WGS is a diverse group of passionate and dedicated scientists working to collect and provide geologic information for the public. This project is a great opportunity for anyone looking to practice applied geophysics and expand their knowledge of Washington geology.

*Required Qualifications: *
- Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geological sciences, engineering geology, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or closely related degree; OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
- Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
- Ability to work outdoors sometimes on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
- Ability to care for delicate instruments.
- Ability to work in both remote and urban locations.
