Position Information Position Title General Chemistry 2024-25 Summer Adjunct Faculty Job Summary We are seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach in-person General Chemistry with lab during summer 2025. The first 5-week summer session (June 23 - July 27) will cover the first half of a year-long General Chemistry course, while the second 5-week summer session (July 28 - August 31) will cover the second half. Experience with student-centered pedagogy is highly desirable. Prior experience teaching STEM fields to diverse and underserved students, including returning adults, is also desirable. The course will be taught in person. Job Expectations Faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter. Facultyare also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration. Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome and all can learn from each other.
