Position Information Position Title Early Childhood Education (ECE), Regular faculty (tenure-track equivalent) Job Summary The Evergreen State College seeks a regular faculty* member with broad training and experience in bilingual and culturally relevant early childhood education who is interested in teaching in a collaborative, liberal arts context using a student-centered approach. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with students from underserved populations, and whose teaching emphasizes applied, critical, interdisciplinary, and social justice-oriented approaches to early childhood education. The successful candidate will teach and continue to develop a full-time 16 credit per quarter, undergraduate early childhood education program, which leads to a liberal arts BA at The Evergreen State College-Tacoma campus. Faculty in the program teach with a mixture of remote and in-person modalities. Successful applicants will give attention to the ways in which they meet each of the Minimum Qualifications and any of the Preferred Qualifications. *Regular is equivalent to tenure-track at other colleges. Job Expectations Most faculty will teach in full-time, team-taught, 16-credit programs connected by a particular theme or line of inquiry, typically taught by two or three faculty. The student: faculty ratio is 25:1; the size of the program depends on the size of the faculty team. This arrangement allows for in-depth, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, and the building of strong learning communities. Evergreen uses narrative evaluations in lieu of grades. Faculty are responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration. Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome, and all can learn from each other. Minimum Qualifications PhD or EdD in early childhood education or related field plus 3 years of related professional or teaching experience in early childhood education. Demonstrated experience with inclusive and culturally responsive teaching methods.
