Position Summary

Our Genetic Sciences Division (GSD) is at the forefront of innovation for genetic analysis research and clinical applications. The Genetic Testing Solutions Organization within GSD is a cross-platform organization designed to accelerate growth in the clinical space. The Asymptomatic Testing Solutions team within GTS is focused on developing product, technology, and service solutions that can enable the world to successfully handle pandemics, such as COVID-19, minimizing both negative health and economic outcomes. The team is dedicated to working across Thermo Fisher Scientific, as well as identifying external partnerships (e.g., M&A, OEM, etc.), to develop products/solutions for key market verticals/partners across the globe.

The Director, Business Development will develop business opportunities to drive ATS testing solutions across all Back to Life use cases, including Back to School, Back to Work, and Travel. The Director, Business Development will collaborate closely with ATS solution partners to build market demand for testing of asymptomatic individuals, as well as drive adoption of specific Thermo Fisher Scientific powered solutions. Reporting to the Senior Director of Market Development – ATS, the individual will lead the strategic analysis of segments, review of applications/use cases, and business proposals based on attractiveness. This leader will be accountable for leading and delivering revenue, profit and customer goals, rapidly building and developing the business.They will collaborate with the Solutions Product Management organization as well as supporting functions (R&D, Operations, Project Management, Business Development, Medical Affairs etc.) to drive the growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

New Business Development & Strategy

  • Responsible for clinical development strategy, technical specification requirements, and global key opinion leader development in support of product portfolio growth objectives.

  • Lead and assess region/ territory adoption of asymptomatic testing across all potential use cases.

  • Play an active role in the product development/improvement cycle through proactive feedback to the product development teams and the marketing team of relevant information such as market feed-back, market intelligence, competitor intelligence, customer feedback on desired features and improvement.

  • Own business unit’s annual strategic planning process and special projects as they arise

  • Facilitate inorganic/partnership strategy and evaluate opportunities that align with broader organizational strategy. Conduct M&A due diligence for technologies / products / companies as part of long-term strategy

  • Support business unit and corporate special projects/presentations as the need arises by senior leadership team

  • Undertake and analyze market landscape to build business cases for new projects and opportunities



  • Bachelor’s degree required in life science, engineering, businesses, economics or related field

  • MBA or similar advanced degree strongly preferred


  • 8+ years professional experience in consulting, corporate or life science strategy, and/or market analysis

  • Understanding of organizational requirements to design life sciences products/solutions

  • Knowledge of molecular testing methods used in clinical applications and their strengths/differentiation relative to conventional diagnostics methods preferred

  • Familiar with genomic technologies - qPCR, CE, Microarray and NGS platforms preferred

  • Familiar with global trends on adoption of molecular testing preferred

  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, communication and presentation skills

  • Strong presence: ability to influence and connect with senior business leadership including C-Suite

  • Work cross-functionally across a matrixed organization

  • Highly self-motivated with ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and initiatives
