The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) seeks an Assessment Specialist to join the OSPI team. This full-time position is based in Olympia, Washington. Position Overview This position works as part of the Operations Team in the Division of Assessment and Student Information. The Operations Team collaborates with cross-functional teams in the areas of data, IT, special education and migrant/bilingual education. The Operations Team writes, edits, reviews and publishes administration and technical manuals, which supports school district personnel throughout testing and the year. The Operations Team also monitors and tracks district testing processes, and conducts User Acceptance Testing for the online testing systems.

This position provides information to school district staff to support the statewide assessment system. This position develops and distributes technical information and documentation, and provides direct customer support regarding state assessments. Washington State conducts assessments statewide in Mathematics, English Language Arts and Science knowledge and skills at the elementary, middle and high school levels. In addition, Washington State assesses English language proficiency and kindergarten readiness.

Key Responsibilities Support school districts in the implementation of Washington State's assessment program.

  • Respond to questions from school district staff via phone and email.
  • Work with the team to develop test administration and technical training materials for school districts.
  • Work with the team to develop communication materials for school districts, parents and the general public.
  • Track and manage district inquiries.
  • Document procedures and processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field, OR four (4) years of professional level experience in a school, district, or Educational Service District or in customer service.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with K-12 assessment requirements, as dictated by federal and state laws.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Effective verbal communication and technical-writing skills.
  • Precise attention to detail with proofreading and editing.

Compensation The annual compensation for the position is $43,000-$50,000 per year and depends upon experience, educational background and qualifications. Washington State offers a generous benefit package including health, dental and life insurance, retirement and an optional deferred compensation program.
