Newcastle Fruit and Produce Co. Gardener - Nursery Associate in Newcastle, Washington
Want to work outdoors with people who love plants? We're hiring full-time and part-time help in our nursery. This is a seasonal role that runs from April -- December.
* * Job Description
- Watering, cleaning plants, weeding, and overall nursery maintenance in all types of weather.
- Plant identification, pest and disease diagnosis.
- Help customers select plants and products; suggest design solutions; offer advice on plant care, as well as pest/disease control.
- Ensure appropriate signage is posted for plants.
- Unload delivery trucks.
- Tag and merchandize plants.
Requirements
- Gardening experience (at least two years).
- At least one year of retail experience.
- A passion for plants and customer service.
- Excellent communication skills: clear, thorough, and courteous.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, or lift items up to 100% of the day.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to work independently.
- Must play well with others.
Experience/Education
- Three or more years of gardening experience is strongly preferred. If you have less experience, but are confident in your abilities and knowledge, feel free to apply. We like that, too.
- Solid knowledge of Puget Sound horticultural and gardening practices as it relates to nursery plants, woody ornamentals, perennials and/or annuals, as well as insects and diseases is preferred.
