Systima Technologies Entry Level Laboratory Chemist (U.S Citizen Only, Aerospace & Defense) in Mukilteo, Washington

SUMMARY The Entry Level Laboratory Chemist will be involved in understanding customer requirements, developing research plans, executing to meet program objectives, and measuring progress against cost, schedule and performance requirements. Problem solving is inherently multi-disciplinary and the ability to work within multiple teams simultaneously while pursuing multiple technical objectives is a daily requirement. Strong communication skills are needed for report and proposal writing, internal and external presentations, and daily coordination within the team. The environment is fast-paced, but highly flexible with many exciting problem-solving opportunities and room to define future areas of technical growth for the organization. Reports to the Value Stream Lead. * Staff (Service) - No supervisory responsibilities are anticipated. * Budget Expenditures - This will vary depending on active contracts. * Complexity (knowledge / technological) - General chemistry, polymers, ceramics, materials characterization * Complexity (product diversity) - Formulation, fabrication and testing of organic and inorganic materials * Area of Responsibility - Hands-on laboratory role, executing tasks as defined by supervisor ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Demonstrate competence in basic computer usage including typing, MS Office, and web-based forms and applications * Work in a team-oriented environment * Communicate well verbally and in writing * Apply proactive and reactive problem-solving skills * Participate in multiple technical programs at once (typically 3 or 4 programs simultaneously) * Execute work, summarize results, and prepare reports as required * Prepare estimates and technical input for bids and proposals * Work independently with little supervision PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE To perform the job successfully an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: * Lab experience: Utilize basic instrumentation to perform testing on a routine basis as assigned. Use glassware, reactors, columns, and other lab apparatuses to perform synthesis, formulation, separation, purification, titration and other basic chemical processes. Use characterization equipment to perform material analysis (including, but not limited to DMA, DSC, TGA, rheology, UV-Vis, FTIR, and GC-MS). Use measurement tools, hand tools, power tools, personal protection equipment (PPE), and work in a common, mixed-use space with other users. Learn new hands-on fabrication and testing skills as needed. Complete documentation as needed. Identify and participate in process improvements. Perform routine lab maintenance, maintaining a clean and safe laboratory space. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * BS or MS in Chemistry from an accredited university * Entry level position - no prior experience required * Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance * Must be a U.S. Citizen BENEFITS AT SYSTIMA Systima Technologies is a dynamic and growing company.
