This position is responsible for understanding and testing the diesel engine cooling system for the PACCAR heavy duty commercial vehicles. Testing will be conducted on leading-edge powertrains in collaboration with Kenworth and Peterbilt truck divisions. The candidate will be responsible for evaluating heat transfer characteristics of the engine cooling systems and other auxiliary heat transfer systems. Division Information The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Job Functions / Responsibilities Serves as engine and auxiliary cooling system test engineer and subject matter expert on conducting testing, providing insights, test plan development, and all aspects of assigned testing. Leads effort to develop test strategies, manage procedures and processes for engine and auxiliary cooling systems. Analyzes project requests, discusses project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans, budgets, and schedules. Works directly with internal and external customers on test requests, planning, execution, and reporting. Creates, coordinates, manages, and executes required program budgets. Develops, tracks and reports program related metrics. Establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relations with truck divisions. Specifies instrumentation equipment, vehicles, loading configurations, software versions, and data collection strategies for assigned testing. Participates in set up of tests, data collection and analysis. Writes reports as appropriate, incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations. Develops and maintains a high level of familiarity with PACCAR products and service tools. Presents results of testing or investigative projects to divisions or management personnel. Off-site testing requires up to 10% travel. Qualifications Understanding and knowledge of typical automotive cooling systems Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of heavy truck cooling systems. 5+ years testing and engineering experience. Candidate will be independent, motivated, demonstrate excellent analytical and written communication skills, and exercise sound engineering judgment. Commercial driver\'s license desired. Experience with class 8 vehicles preferred. Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility, and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands. Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively. Powertrain hardware and software testing experience a plus. Experience with CAN based control systems and diagnostic tools desired. Experience with CSM data acquisitions systems and ATI-based analysis tools required. Working knowledge of PACCAR processes preferred. Strong aptitude for root-cause analysis.
