Summary

The Safety Trainer is instrumental in driving the safety training, certifications, and recertifications for the organization. Safety trainers play a crucial role in ensuring workplace safety. They are responsible for conducting classroom instruction and demonstration of techniques required for safety equipment. Safety trainers will conduct comprehensive risk assessments on workplace conditions and associate behavior.

This position has a wage range $20.00 - $22.00 per hour and is eligible for comprehensive benefits.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform daily audits within operations to ensure all plant safety protocols and procedures are being strictly to adhered to utilizing the established online database to report any differences found

  • Deliver safety training programs to associates such as Lockout-Tagout, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Aerial Lifts, Jockey Trucks, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Respiratory Training, Material Handling, Electrical Safety, Work Place Violence, and Slips, Trips, Falls

  • Conduct recertifications on safety topics such as Powered Industrial Vehicles, Jockey Trucks, and Lockout Tagout

  • Conduct refresher trainings for machine specific SOPs and LOTO procedures

  • Assist the Safety and Security Manager in ensuring machine specific SOPs and LOTO procedures are updated

  • Assist Safety and Security Manager developing and implementing machine operation SOPs to include LOTO updates

  • Train associates on emergency response protocols and assist Plant Management with emergency evacuation drills

  • Assist the Safety department with any other required tasks

  • Adhere to all safety rules including PPE, preventing, and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout-Tagout procedures and Process Safety Management related matters

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • A minimum of 1 year of further processing work experience and an equivalent familiarity with the production equipment used in the operations

  • Proficient computer skills using WORD, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred

Minimum Education and Experience Preferred

  • At least 3-years experience serving as a plant safety representative or other related safety experience gained at other employers; or through military or voluntary fire/emergency rescue service organizations

  • An advance degree or related work experience as a safety professional

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • The position is active and requires constant foot travel throughout the production areas and plant grounds. These areas may be congested

  • Will need to be able to read and access files, handle and inspect various chemicals used within the operation, inspect operational production machinery for hazards, and inspect/use powered motorized vehicles

  • Work activity is primarily in a production environment but confined space entry could be required

When in a plant environment:

  • Ability to tolerate exposure to wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces

  • Ability to stand for an extended period and perform repetitive tasks

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. by reaching, bending, and pushing boxes

  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection as required by Company

  • May work in an environment with varying temperatures between 28 degrees and 100 degrees Fahrenheit

  • May handle product varying in temperatures between 25 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit

  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. to 110 db.

  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company

  • May be exposed to dust, feathers, and all chemicals used in a poultry processing facility

  • Occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors 10ppm and chlorine less than 20 ppm
