Requisition SummaryThis position is located within the Advanced Powertrain organization at PTC and involves leading next-generation heavy-duty engine research and development activities. PACCAR continually improves its proprietary MX-11 and MX-13 engines to meet new regulations while outperforming competitor products. The successful candidate will develop and evaluate new designs that provide improvements in key technology areas such as combustion, air management, base engine friction, and ancillaries. Get started!Division InformationThe PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.Job Functions / ResponsibilitiesGuide the development of advanced heavy duty engine combustion systems, air management equipment, and base engine improvements.Work with project engineers, analysts, designers, suppliers, and external collaborators to identify and evaluate promising technologies for improving heavy duty engine performance.Develop and test proof-of-concept hardware and controlsMaintain technical documentation and roadmaps to support engine design teamsKeep abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and methods through interaction with universities, national labs and suppliersCooperate with purchasing to evaluate and select component and system suppliersCommunicate results and recommendations to team and stakeholders on a regular basis and facilitate technology transfer to relevant PACCAR divisionsQualificationsTen years of experience in compression ignition engine research and developmentIn-depth experience with at least one of: compression ignition combustion systems, air management and emissions control systems, base engine design and friction reduction (and strong familiarity with the rest)Familiarity with engine hardware design and FEAFamiliarity with 1-D and 3-D simulation toolsExperience with leadership of cross-functional technical project teamsPreviously demonstrated resourcefulness, strong technical knowledge, analytical capability, and communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and have demonstrated high levels of initiative and innovation.EducationMasters or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Engineering PhysicsAdditional Job Board InformationPACCAR is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veteran/Disability.
