We are looking for a motivated and creative leader to help shape and support our mission. This position works with hazardous materials and explosives. Provides instrumentation and mechanical support for the set-up and conducting of destructive and non-destructive test. Generally, works in the test lab, but may be required to support testing of an out-of-plant test facility or to travel in support of engineering demonstrations. Receives work assignments from the Engineering Services Supervisor. Major Position Responsibilities Fabricates or modifies electrical/electronic equipment, cables and/or test fixtures, or test aids. Understands and applies different soldering techniques required for repair and build-up of connectors, cables, etc. Selects and integrates pressure transducers, thermocouples, photoelectric cells, LVDT's and other sensors into test set-up. Understands calibration requirements for all sensors, properly sets signal conditioning equipment available to the correct excitation voltages required by the selected sensor. Selects the correct amplifier gains for the appropriate transducer full scale output that most effectively matches the DACS A/D converter. Integrates, sets up, connects and operates the DACs to include data and control cable connections, creating configuration and calibration files, starting, stopping and retrieving data. Sets up and operates other data recordings equipment such as strip chart recorders, and data loggers. Interprets test directives to determine instrumentation requirements to support test objectives. Understands the concepts of camera placement and lighting to operate a high-speed camera system and provide video documentation of tests. Prepares routine reports and correspondence on a limited basis, quickly and clearly. Programs and operates temperature-conditioning chambers. Sets up and operates various temperature controllers. Reviews and inventory electronic components and supplies. Stocks and orders replacements, as required. Has awareness to sensitive equipment and ESD danger. Possesses knowledge on how to prevent damage from occurring. Performs duties with minimal supervision and direction. Maintains a well-organized, neat and safe work area. Immediately terminates any unsafe activities and advises the production Lead/Supervisor of the same. Wears and cares for a personal protective equipment (PPE) required to perform assigned tasks. Follows verbal and written work directions as assigned by Supervisor and/or Lead personnel. Demonstrates and promotes teamwork and cooperation with team members at all levels in the organization to solve problems and improve processes. Must be available for shift work and overtime as deemed necessary by company commitments to schedule. Basic Qualifications Proficient with basic handheld power tools such as drill motors, saws, screw guns, etc). Working knowledge of various types of fasteners. Ability to determine proper rigging of cloth, wire, chain, and rope slings. Understands the basic Data Acquisition/Control System (DACS) measurement chain (i.e. sensor, power supply, signal conditioner, filter, amplifier, storage and display)
