Wage Range: $27.26 - $40.46 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation, such as shift differentials and premiums may be available for this role. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

    JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence principles. Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nursing with direct patient care activities. Assumes responsibility for providing direct patient care. Takes direction from the RN and provides quality care to patients. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development. Able to communicate and interact with a large variety of peers, physicians, patients, families, and pre-hospital providers. Performs clerical, phone, order entry, discharge information. Assumes responsibility for using effective interpersonal and organizational skills and supports nursing and medical staff on the unit.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

    High school degree or equivalent. Requires Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist Certification, Medical Assistant – Certified, Med Tech Certification, OR Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) upon hire. Current BLS required. Must possess active Washington State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification. If does not possess on date of hire, must begin a training program at the time of hire that meets WAC requirements, complete the Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification training program, and submit an application to the DOH within 90 days of starting the phlebotomy training program. Bloodborne pathogen class as part of EHM new hire orientation.

    SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Previous hospital or Emergency department experience is strongly preferred. Proven ability to work independently and with a variety of peers and physicians. Ability to work with and knowledge of multi-line telephones, copiers, and fax machines. Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate. Intermediate computer skills required. Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates computer order entry skills. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize work, ability to interact with diverse contact groups. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

    Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials. Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and blood/body fluids, and risk of physical injury from lifting, standing, sitting, walking, and stooping.

    WORK CONTACT GROUP:

    All departments within the hospital, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff. Pre-hospital, law enforcement, and other caregivers in the community.

    SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Physically able to move quickly throughout the hospital. Natural or corrected near visual acuity is necessary to read patients' charts, orders, and dials, displays, and gauges on equipment. Natural or corrected hearing is necessary to communicate effectively with others. Must be able to lift and transfer patients with good body mechanics, using appropriate zero-lift equipment provided.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Stocking and maintaining supplies in the Emergency Department. Keeping unit orderly with supplies in appropriate places, cleaning up after self and patients as needed.

  • Computer entry, printing forms, typing up Exit care D/C instructions as prescribed by Physician. Charting/documentation complete and appropriate to the patient and care given. Age specific documentation completed. (Charting wound care, splinting, crutches, blood draws, vital signs etc.).

  • Effective communication skills with the PA, physician and peers in other departments and pre-hospital providers.

  • Do complete vital signs on admission and discharge, and hourly rounding. (Temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, pulse oximetry blood pressure Weight documented.).

  • Assist with suturing, wound care, and set up, clean up and dressing application. Irrigation of wounds as directed by Physician or RN Maintain charts, ED log documentation, transfer log, fax log, ortho log.

  • HUC duties, placing and answering phone calls, copy charts of admitted patients (original stays with patient) other duties as assigned by RN, PA or MD.

  • Transports patients from lobby or car and again on discharge to lobby or waiting car. Either walking or wheel chair.

  • Completes the Daily ED HUC/Tech checklist on every shift.

  • Reports to the RN, any patient needs and gives care appropriate to age of patient within the scope of practice.

  • Demonstrates organizational skill and ability to prioritize work ongoing with multiple demands.

  • On time and ready for work. Dressed in scrubs.

  • Transport blood and urine to the lab. Assist with pelvic exam.

  • Assist patient to bathroom, collect urine and stool when needed.

  • Vena puncture for lab draws once competency completed and has PC certificate.

  • Administer oral, topical and nasal vaccine after competency and has PC certificate.

  • Help medics move patient onto bed. Get patient into gown, get initial set of vitals.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by Charge Nurse.

    This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and SEIU Healthcare 1199NW .
