DescriptionDEPARTMENT: CAMP GIFFORD POSITION TITLE: PROGRAM LEADER: CHALLENGE COURSE STATUS: SEASONAL, FULL TIME SUPERVISOR: DISCOVERY CAMP DIRECTOR MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. SCOPE OF POSITION: Plan, supervise, and implement the camp challenge course programs including but not limited to: Low Ropes Course, High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, and Zip Line. Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers and staff while participating in assigned camp programs. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: High School Graduate, some college preferred but not mandatory ACCT Level 2 Certification required Experience working with children preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Possess good leadership skills Possess good verbal and written communication skills Be able to pass a child safety background check Be detail oriented and well organized Must be knowledgeable in the areas of children/personnel safety, planning, problem solving, and crisis intervention ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and implement Discovery and Wilderness camp challenge courses for electives, free-time, and cabin activities Create an environment that leads groups to success Know the type of group and the specific needs of the group you're working with Maintain open, friendly, and professional relationships with participants Maintain an attitude of fun and excitement Use encouragement and positive reinforcement in all situations Lead games initiatives and elements for groups ranging from 8 to 20 campers Clearly communicate the instructions for each game, initiative, and element in a fun and creative manner Have all equipment and props prepared before the campers' arrival Ensure the safety of campers and staff Lead briefing and debriefing sessions with each group Communicate the objective of the activities, Five Finger Contract Observe groups' responses to each challenge and formulate appropriate questions to encourage group learning and growth Initiate and facilitate final wrap-up session at the end of each course to sum up the experience and point campers to Christ in transferring their learning Always ensure compliance with standards of safety and programmatic conduct. Inspect all equipment, hardware, and elements for damage before and after each course Report all damaged equipment, hardware, and elements verbally and on a pre-use inspection form Participate in safety training Clearly communicate all safety procedures and standards to participants for each activity Attend to surroundings and participants needs during all courses Be aware of any medical/physical conditions or special needs of the campers Fill out all necessary paperwork Fill out Pre-use inspections, course evaluations, rope and equipment logs, incident report forms, and maintenance forms Perform inventory of challenge course program equipment and supplies at the start and finish of the summer and each week Complete any necessary course or grounds maintenance as necessary to maintain a safe and aesthetic course as assigned by the Camp Director GENERAL DUTIES: Exhibit effective Christ-like conduct and service as an appropriate example for campers and staff Give support to the total camping program performing all other duties required to provide a consistently excellent program Attend and participate in all camp programs as required including, but not limited to evening programs, chapel activities, and staff meetings Follow all policies and pro
