PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center is a 177-bed acute care medical center located in Longview, Washington, and is part of PeaceHealth, a non-profit mission driven healthcare system. The area’s sole community hospital and a Level III trauma center, along with our multi-specialty Medical Group, provide dozens of medical specialty services and programs including emergency, trauma, heart, behavioral health, bone and joint, cancer, birthing, and women’s services.

Consider joining our Telemetry nursing unit in a full-time day shift position. This is a .9 FTE role working three 12-hour Day shifts each week in our 32 bed med-surg unit with an emphasis on patients with a cardiac diagnosis.

Position Details:

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.

  • Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.

  • Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.

  • Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.

  • Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Credentials:

  • Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing required.

  • Washington State RN license required at date of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at date of hire.

  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire

Experience :

  • 1 year RN experience preferred. Experienced RN or New Graduate RN (or equivalent education and/or experience). If new grad with fewer than 12 months of experience (or fewer than 6 months acute care experience) the RN will participate in the Nurse Residency Program.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.

Other skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment

  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy, and procedures

  • Basic computer skills

LONGVIEW PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires active physical exertion up to 33% of the time.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or less.

  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation, or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.

  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 65% of work time).

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).

  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.

  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.

  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
