The Quality Control Technician plays a key role in implementing and overseeing the QA/QC at designated project job sites. This role involves conducting inspections, tests, and audits to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards. The technician collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to identify and resolve quality issues promptly. Additionally, they document inspection results, prepare reports, and maintain records to track project quality metrics and trends. The successful candidate maintains high standards of construction quality and ensures client satisfaction through rigorous quality management practices.
Salary Range: $35 - $50 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).
Work Scope
Maintain organized, up-to-date documents and logs.
Coordinate and schedule Non-Destructive Examinations (NDE); review and accept submitted NDE reports.
Conduct visual weld inspections and perform welder qualification testing.
Track field welds; review, approve, and maintain field-drawn isometric drawings.
Verify the installation of assemblies, components, and equipment in the field.
Assemble as-built turnover packages according to NWN standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform and witness onsite inspections.
Supervise and validate third-party NDE.
Tracking and ensuring welder qualifications are up to date and in accordance with approved welding procedures
Manage initiation, maintenance, and distribution of QA/QC documentation and records.
Conduct receiving inspections and notifications.
Oversee control of measuring and testing equipment.
Identify and facilitate correction of non-conformances.
Conduct internal quality audits.
Maintain Welding Logs and continuity reporting.
Cultivate positive relationships with the JHK shop, field personnel, and third-party NDE Authorized Inspectors.
Exercise stop work authority when necessary.
Manage & ensure owner-required Owner Qualification (OQ) qualifications are up to date
Maintaining weld procedures onsite where welding is being performed
Ensure as-built isometrics are properly labeled with MTRs, welder IDs, heat numbers and inspection tags
Review & ensure third-party testing documents meet end-user requirements & standards
Relationships:
Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel.
Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.
Experience / Qualifications:
Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification.
A minimum of five (5) years in Quality Control roles.
Industrial sector experience with oil & gas.
Quality Control experience with API 1104, NFPA 59A, ASME B31.4, and/or ASME B31.8 Construction Codes.
Knowledge of 49 CFR 192 – "Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline: Minimum Federal Safety Standards."
Ability to read and generate isometric piping drawings, preferably using digital tools like Bluebeam or other PDF editors.
Performing visual weld inspections
Tracking and ensuring welder qualifications on site are up to date and in accordance with approved welding procedures
Necessary Skills:
High attention to detail.
Self-starter, with strong time management and prioritization skills.
Ability to work effectively within a project team while maintaining quality standards with minimal productivity impact.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
Proficiency in Bluebeam for viewing and editing PDF documents
Operating Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs) for inspection access.
Use of fall protection equipment.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for this role include the ability to transition frequently between an office, fab shops, and a construction field setting. In the office, the individual must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse, and communicating by telephone. In the field, the individual must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods on various surfaces, including uneven terrain, and climbing stairs as required. The role also necessitates the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl to view/inspect tight spaces, as well as lifting and carrying materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and communicating on-site. The individual must also be adaptable to working outdoors in various weather conditions, adhere to site-specific dress codes, and comply with safety requirements by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Construction sites may also include additional PPE including but not limited to air monitors, long sleeves, and fire-rated clothing. Flexibility to travel between job sites and work outside regular business hours when necessary is also required.
