Summary: JH Kelly has grown into one of the largest industrial mechanical contractors in the Pacific Northwest. Our Industrial Projects encompass everything from building foundations, structural steel, and all types of process and material moving equipment to intricate process piping and instrumentation & control systems. The Junior Estimator will play a key role in supporting our estimating department in developing accurate and competitive bids for large-scale industrial projects. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in various aspects of estimating for industrial construction, including civil, structural, mechanical, and piping systems.

Salary Range: $25-$33 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior Estimators in gathering, analyzing, and compiling data to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for industrial projects.

  • Review drawings, specifications, and other documentation to understand project scope and materials.

  • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing for materials, labor, and equipment.

  • Assist in developing takeoffs for a variety of systems, including process piping, structural steel, and equipment installations.

  • Participate in site visits to gather information and ensure estimates are accurate.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to refine estimates and project timelines.

  • Assist in preparing and submitting bid packages to clients and responding to requests for information (RFIs).

  • Track project costs and assist in post-project cost analysis to improve future estimates.

    Relationships:

  • Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel.

  • Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.

    Experience / Qualifications:

  • Construction Management, Mechanical, Engineering degree or related field preferred, and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong interest in industrial construction and willingness to learn various aspects of the industry.

  • Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment, particularly related to industrial projects.

  • Working knowledge and ability to read P&IDs, piping isometrics, and piping plan and section drawings.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.), and experience with estimating software is a plus.

    Necessary Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Preferred previous experience or internships in construction estimating or industrial project work.

  • Preferred familiarity with industrial construction trades (piping, electrical, structural).

    Physical Requirements:

    This office position requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer. Candidates must have the ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse. Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching are necessary. The role also requires good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling office equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential.
