Itron, Inc. Principal Firmware Engineer in Liberty Lake, Washington

Itron is seeking a firmware architecture engineer to be a member of a cross-functional, global team primarily responsible for evaluating, proposing and documenting architecture and high-level design of new and continued designs, including aspects related to security within embedded real time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux-based platform architectures. This position will be heavily involved in early design phases, however some level of involvement in all product phases is expected, with the goal to deliver robust, reliable and secure product. Duties and responsibilities: Analyze requirements, architectural approach and impacts and high level design inclusive of aspects required in a secure product Develop and maintain analysis and architectural documentation Support development teams in clarifying architectural understanding, design approaches and security related impacts Interface directly with cross-functional teams, management and peers on aspects relating to architecture and security Mentor less experienced team members. 5+ years of related firmware development experience Experience with creation of architectural and design documentation (block diagrams, sequence diagrams, process flows, interface definitions) Experience with application, system, and network-level functionality, inclusive of related security issues Experience with key and certificate management, trust chains, and storage techniques Understanding of industry standard cryptographic algorithms, modes of operations, and secure protocols (ECDSA, ECDH, RSA, ECC, AES, TLS/SSL) Proficient embedded development skillset: c/c++, kernel drivers, scripting, and debugging techniques Good knowledge of source code management concepts Preferred related experience: ARM architecture, TI processors, and board bring up. Open source and 3rd party security library cryptographic APIs. Understanding of Linux kernel, filesystem, and securing them from boot process through runtime. Understanding of real time operating systems (RTOS) GNU compiler and toolchains Ubuntu, Jenkins, BlackDuck, VSTS/Azure Dev Ops, GIT, Enterprise Architect, Visio Education: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
